Customs Compliance Specialist Our growing Customs and Import department is now hiring a Customs Compliance and Import Specialist. This role will lead on customs affairs in the UK by planning and optimising customs and foreign trade flows for Lidl GB while taking into consideration the legislative and border modifications arising from the UK leaving the European Union. The core purpose of this exciting role is to ensure the high quality and compliance of Lidl's customs activities. With your extensive customs knowledge, you'll be contributing to compliance processes and protecting Lidl from compliance risk. Please note: your contractual job title will be "Consultant - Customs" in line with our internal role structures What you'll do •Providing in-house advice and guidance on import and export working closely with a variety of stakeholders and advising them on customs related matters •Overseeing the process of customs classification and audit including the management and implementation of internal audit controls •Ensuring compliance in export and import operations (goods classification, origin, preferential treatment, quotas, border controls and customs certification) •Overseeing the resolution of queries raised by our Customs Brokers •Liaison with trade associations, government departments and external consultancies •Keeping up to speed with the latest developments in the customs world and translating this research into digestible information for the business as well as building reports and dashboards •Developing a compliance network with customs teams responsible for other Lidl countries •Identifying areas of improvement and optimise processes and ensuring conformity under external customs audits •Work closely with other departments such as Buying on assessing and reviewing their sourcing strategies and Supply Chain & Logistics •Pursual of preference opportunities under Free Trade Agreements •Training and coaching Customs team members What you'll need •Knowledge of applying the General Rules of Interpretation (GIR) •Experience working with the Customs Integrated Tariff and Explanatory Notes •Experience working with customs data and the codification of customs declarations •Up to date knowledge of customs legislation and customs affairs (import, export, declarations, bonded warehouses, transit, preferential treatment) •Knowledge of international trade agreements and the understanding of local and international customs law •Analytical mind-set with the ability to analyse large data sets and build dashboards •Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems •Ability to plan and manage own workload, work independently and report in a structure manner into the wider business •Excellent organisational skills with the ability to use own initiative •Highly focused and accurate with an uncompromising eye for detail •Hands-on approach and can-do attitude in a developing remit •Ability to accommodate last minute requests with ease and efficiency •Strong communication and cross-cultural awareness e.g. supply chain elements What you'll receive This isn't getting by.
