Fire Safety Compliance & Building Officer Bristol Temporary Contract (3 Months+) Role/responsibilities Purpose: To act autonomously in this role and to provide leadership specifically to fire safety compliance and capital project maintenance teams. The person will be responsible for developing and maintaining fire equipment data and asset records. The co-ordination and management of Fire regulatory information, liaising with the safety team, stakeholders, and local fire authority. Writing, reviewing, and updating in line with new and emerging legislation fire related policies and procedures. Making budgetary proposals and bids for improving fire safety to all buildings across the estate. Responsibilities: To directly prepare, supervise and monitor contract documentation and specifications for survey work for Fire Risk Assessment, Compartmentation and Fire Damper surveys. To liaise directly with the procurement team in relationship to framework agreements. Ensure that all project survey briefs are fit for purpose, communicated to, and signed-off by the relevant members of the user community. To prepare appointment briefs for work to be carried out by consultants as necessary. To liaise with the administrative team to ensure project records are fully updated and spend against approved projects is correctly logged. To liaise with the Procurement team in Finance Services to produce suitable Contractor specifications for Annual service contracts (e.g.) Fire Damper survey and repair. Prepare various reports for university stakeholders, including feasibility reports, technical reports, cost reports and project progress reports. Essential Technical Expertise Building pathology, Building Regulations and Approved Document B including (ADB Lobbied stair venting systems), Fire Strategy, Fire Safety Engineering (both passive and active) Listed and Historic Buildings. A proven knowledge and familiarity with Fire Safety legislation. Demonstration of a creative approach to problem solving. Experience in delivering projects across a wide selection of building types. Experience in working with project management procedures, tender procedures and evaluation techniques. Supervising contractors and managing professional consultants Conversant with a wide range of construction related legislation including specifically the CDM Regulations and planning and building regulations. A high standard of written and verbal communication skills Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, mobile tablet devices and MS Project. Ability to manage several different sites and projects simultaneously. Preparation of reports and reports writing Excellent communication skills Ability to collect and analyse technical information, communicate with others and when necessary, seek specialist help and advice in order to find solutions to complex technical design and maintenance issues and problems. A basic understanding and ability with CAD systems e.g., Autodesk/AutoCAD, to allow accessing and manipulation or minor alteration of existing drawings or production of simple drawings to assist and support design and specification duties etc. A basic understanding and ability to work on CAFM and other operating and reporting systems. Essential Qualifications Degree or HND qualified in Building Surveying/Construction management In-depth working knowledge and application of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety 2005. Fire Safety Qualification (NEBOSH Fire safety and risk Management) or equivalent Working knowledge of BS:9999, Code of Practice for Fire Safety in Design Management of Buildings
